Generally, Poker is played with a group of players, and involves betting. It is a game of chance, and the winner is the player with the highest poker hand. Some variants allow the use of Wild Cards, which are cards that can substitute for any suit. There are four suits in a standard deck of poker cards: King, Queen, Jack and Ace.
A game of poker is usually played with a standard 52 card deck. Each player is dealt a set of cards, and must use them to create a five card hand. Players can discard cards, but not more than three, and the player who discards first gets to draw from the top of the deck.
After each round of betting, players show their cards. The player with the best five card hand wins the pot. If there are more than one player with the same hand, a showdown is held, in which the highest card is revealed. If there are ties, the highest card breaks them.

The first player in the round has the obligation to make the first bet. The next player must raise the bet if he or she wants to compete. If no one raises, the next player must call the bet. Then, all players who have not raised the bet must fold, if they do not want to continue to compete for the pot.
When a hand is made up of five cards of the same suit, it is called a straight flush. A straight flush begins with the highest card in the suit, followed by the second highest card, followed by three cards of the same suit, and finally the lowest card. The highest straight flush is called the Royal Flush. The lowest natural hand is a pair of aces. This is not a good hand off the deal, but it is still a good hand.
Some variations of Poker allow players to use more than five cards in their hand, and some games require the use of jokers, which are cards that can take any suit. There are also variants that allow players to make a blind bet, a bet which is placed before the cards are dealt. Depending on the type of poker, players may also be able to bluff their opponents. In some games, a player may be able to double his or her stake if he or she raises for a short period of time.
After the cards are dealt, the dealer begins to shuffle the deck. The first player to receive the first card, who is also the first player to shuffle the deck, is the initial dealer. During the initial dealer’s turn, he or she will move clockwise from hand to hand. Then, the player to the left of the dealer cuts the deck, and the next player to the left will do the same.
