Almost every poker game is played with chips. The chips are usually black or red. Each chip is valued differently. The value of the chip can vary depending on the stage of the game. For instance, if the player has exposed pairs, the limit may be higher. In stud poker, the limit is usually twice as high in the final betting interval.

A poker game begins with a dealer. The dealer is usually responsible for dealing the cards. The dealer will either deal face up or face down. If the cards are dealt face up, the player must show their cards to the other players. If the cards are dealt face down, the player must keep the cards until the end of the round.

Before the game begins, the dealer will assign values to the chips. The chips may be red, black, blue or green. Some games may have two jokers.

In some games, the kicker is the highest-ranking card in the deck. It may be high or low. The kicker is also the highest-ranking card in a hand of high-cards. The kicker may break ties if multiple people have high hands of the same type. For example, if Dennis has a pair of kings and Brad has a pair of jacks, Brad wins the pot.

There are two basic ways to play poker: a blind bet, and a match bet. Each player can either raise or fold. When a player raises, he or she is required to place a certain amount of chips in the pot. If a player folds, he or she is required to remove all the cards from his or her hand.
